Two Walled Lake Western records fall at Tri-County Invitational
The Walled Lake Western track and field team shined on Saturday at Brandon High School in the 13th annual Tri-County Invitational.
The Warrior boys took second place overall, falling just six points behind winner Rochester Adams. The girls team also made the podium finishing third overall.
More impressive, the girls’ 4x100 meter relay team took down a 41-year-old program record in the event. Gabriella Garth, Jennifer Duru, Jessica Duru and Kira Havard set the new mark with a time of 50.29 seconds. The previous record was 50.40 seconds and set back in 1984 by Michelle Jabolonsky, Amy Yeager, Kristen VanPutton and Cherie Welch.
Junior Rodney Endsley also etched his name in the program record books in the 400 meter dash. Endsley broke John Witkowski’s record (50.26 seconds), which was set in 2015, with a blazing time of 48.98 seconds. The time not only set a new program mark, but also early qualified Endsley for the MHSAA State Championships in May.
